In this series I transposed visitors from the Pompidou Centre in Paris into spaces in the building site of the future Pompidou Centre in Metz. I set my photography studio up in an empty room in the museum in Paris and asked visitors to pretend to be the future public of the Pompidou Centre in Metz. These montages resemble the 3D simulations produced for architectural projects both as real and imaginary projections. They do, however, break with the character of illusion and the propaganda purposes of 3D images in being based on a participatory experience. This realistic anchor point is nuanced by the strangeness of certain digital insertions where the demonstrative poses and expressions are consequently not adapted to a building site. The relationship between the observer, the work of art and the museum space itself echoes the work of German photographer Thomas Struth, and my interest in the tableau vivant makes reference to the writings of the sociologist Irving Goffman.

CENTRE POMPIDOU METZ

Dans cette série, j’ai transposé les visiteurs du Centre Pompidou (Paris) dans les espaces en chantier du Centre Pompidou-Metz. Après avoir installé mon studio dans une salle vacante du musée, j’ai demandé aux visiteurs d’incarner le futur public du Centre Pompidou-Metz. Ces montages s’apparentent aux simulations 3D des projets architecturaux en tant que projection mentale et temporelle. Elles rompent cependant avec le caractère illusionniste et la visée propagandiste de ces images en se fondant sur une expérience participative. Cet encrage réaliste est lui-même nuancé par l’étrangeté de certaines intégrations numériques où les attitudes démonstratives sont conséquemment inadaptées à un chantier. La relation du regardeur à l’œuvre à l’espace muséal fait écho aux travaux de l’artiste Thomas Struth et l’intérêt pour la mise en scène se réfère aux écrits du sociologue Irving Goffman.
